Porous rotating spherical suspended packing injection-moulded from polypropylene, with several regular or irregular cavities inside so the media stay suspended in balance in water. Density close to water — once covered with biofilm they move with the flow, driven by aeration or mechanical agitation — with strong biomass adhesion, large specific surface area, high porosity and a hydrophilic surface; no agglomeration or clogging, aged biofilm detaches on its own, and mass transfer is efficient with no extra energy.

The suspended ball media is a uniformly shaped, porous rotating spherical packing. The sphere is moulded from PP or PE and with several regular or irregular internal cavities, so it keeps dynamic equilibrium in water. The outer mesh shell and an optional inner bio-carrier (for example polyurethane sponge) give a large protected surface for biofilm growth.
Key characteristics:
Advantages: when used in biological treatment the residual sludge yield is low, refractory substances are removed well, nitrogen and phosphorus removal is efficient and the media also intercept suspended solids. No fixing or hanging is required — simply place them in the treatment unit, which is convenient, easy to replace and reduces installation and operating workload.
Density close to water lets the media move with the water — driven by aeration in aerobic tanks and mechanical agitation in anoxic reactors.
Specially treated hydrophilic surface for strong biomass adhesion; high porosity and large surface area, no agglomeration or clogging, aged biofilm sheds on its own.
High transfer efficiency with no extra energy; low residual sludge, effective nitrogen & phosphorus removal and suspended-solids interception.
Suspended ball media can be supplied in a range of forms to match the application.

Diameter, density, behaviour in the tank and how to specify a quantity.
Φ55 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 150 mm, in polypropylene / polyethylene resin, as SKUs NWS-SPB-55 through NWS-SPB-150. Diameter changes both the surface available for biofilm and how the bed behaves under aeration.
Density is close to water (≈1). That is what lets the spheres circulate freely in the tank instead of floating on the surface or settling into a dead bed — it is the property that makes the whole moving-bed behaviour work.
The porous rotating spherical shell with internal cavities is designed against it — the published characteristics are strong biomass adhesion with no agglomeration or clogging, and self-detaching biofilm. That self-cleaning behaviour is the main reason suspended ball media is chosen over fixed media in high-load duties.
Service life is quoted as long, with acid- and alkali-resistant and UV- and ageing-resistant material. Because specific surface area and single-ball mass differ by diameter, we confirm those per type rather than quoting one figure across the range.
Give us the tank volume, the duty (BOD/COD removal, nitrification or both) and the diameter you are considering. Quantity per m³ and specific surface area are confirmed per type, so we would rather calculate it against your duty than quote a generic number.
On request — confirm type, quantity and destination, and we will quote against a confirmed specification.
Send your water quality, treatment scale and target standard — we'll confirm the right type, quantity and export packaging.
